Stefano Cerrato graduated cum laude from the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Turin  under the tutelage of A. Mosca. Thanks to the contributions of the CRT Foundation and the “De Sono” Association he continued his studies with D. Geringas, N. Gutman, E. Dindo and E. Bronzi until the achievement, in 2009, of the Postgraduate at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg.

He is recipient of several national and international competitions, including the Absolute First Prize and Audience Award at the “Concurso Internacional de violoncello Lluis Claret” in Ciudad de Moguer (Spain), the First Prize at the European Cello Competition “Arturo Bonucci” (Italy), the First Prize at the “Enrico Mainardi” Competition in Salzburg and the special prize Finnish Broadcasting Company at the “Paulo Cello Competition” in Helsinki. With the Trio Caravaggio he was awarded at the “Vittorio Gui” International Chamber Music Competition in Florence and he won the “Carlo Soliva” Inernational Chamber Music Competition.

He worked as principal cellist with important orchestras as La Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice and the A. Toscanini Orchester in Parma. As soloist and chamber music player he has performed in Europe, Africa, Brazil, USA, Korea and Japan, collaborating with famous musicians, conductors and artists like S. Mintz, I. Grubert, S. Accardo, P. Vernikov, S. Briatore, A. Serova, N. Gutman, D. Geringas, M. Brunello, E. Reijseger, E. Bronzi, K. Bogino, R. Plano, G. Sommerhalder, J. Lindemann, G. Bandini, C. Chiacchiaretta, V. Sakarov, T. Koopman, C. Giuffredi, A. Carbonare, D. Kitajenko, P. Inkinen, W. Marshall, J. Axelrod, S. Denève, C. Fracci, R. Bolle, K. Penderecki, F. Vacchi, M. Daugherty and others.

He taught at the International Piano Academy Incontri con il Maestro in Imola. Currently, he teaches at Summer Music Festival in Portogruaro. at Dedalo Music School in Novara and at the Conservatorio “A. Steffani” in Castelfranco Veneto.
